Annual Prayer Service for the Troops
on Armed Forces Day
Republican Women of Worcester County, in conjunction with the Maryland and National Federations of Republican Women, will host the annual Prayer Service for the Troops on Armed Forces Day, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. at the Worcester County Veterans Memorial at Ocean Pines. Republican Women’s clubs around the nation will be participating in this celebration of support for our military.
The entire month of May has been designated by Congress as National Military Appreciation Month. It is a time for Americans to educate each generation on the historical impact of our military and to encourage patriotism and love for America. The theme for Armed Forces Day 2008 is “America Support You”. The prayer service will honor and remember those who are currently serving in harm’s way.
Members of the Worcester County Garden club will also participate in the service and will lay a wreath at the Blue Star Memorial Marker which they installed at the Veterans Memorial site in 2006. Blue Star makers are designed to pay tribute to the Armed Forces as a whole. The Order of the Sons of Italy will also be participating and will present a wreath to commemorate the event.
The public is invited to attend the service and to participate in the vigil of light which will conclude the event. For further information, please call Roseann Bridgman at 410.641.7243.
